More Paper Maniac Holiday Decor ideas!

Hello! For those of you not shopping today, I have a quick ribbon ornament idea for you today.  Paper Maniac has so many gorgeous ribbons, that I wanted to show you how to make this easy ornament!  This idea is from my mom.  She is a teacher, and does this with her students as gifts to take home to their parents or family each year.

First, you need to pick out a medium to large size foam ball that can be found in any craft store.  Next you want to cut strips of ribbon that are 3 to 4 inches in length.  You will need several!  Put some craft glue in a small dish or container.  Next you need a pencil that is sharpened (one that you can throw away when you are done!)  Take your ribbon and wrap around the end of pencil and dip it into your glue, then stick it into the foam ball.  Do this over and over.

You can make the ornament all ribbon, or you can add a photo.  My mom made these for my boys with photos of them from their first Christmas.  If you do this, cut out the part of the photo that you want on the ormament and then use sequins, beads and straight pins to create a border around the photo.  This also holds your photo onto the ornament.  You then fill in the rest of the ornament with the ribbon bits.

Hope you give this a try!  This is a fun, inexpensive project to do with the kids!  Make sure you check out the great sales going on in the shop!

Hugs!

Santa's Sack and a Pixie Dust Studio Challenge!

Hello! My blog bud Lisa posted about a challenge over at Pixie Dust Studio. The challenge is to make a card with this FREE Santa image with some type of texture.  I colored my image with Copics, but added some crystal effects and glitter to the fur trim on Santa's suit.  I think this is one of the cutest Santa images I have seen so far this year!  I am starting to get more comfortable using my Copics!  I still turn to my prisma pencils for certain things, though!  Maybe Santa will bring me some new Copics for Christmas! ;)

We had a fun filled weekend!  I feel like I have probably gained 5 lbs., as we ate out ALOT this week!  Homemade fried chicken on Friday from my favorite little greasy spoon restaurant....Outback steak and lobster Saturday night....and finally....shrimp, steak and chicken fajitas that were AMAZING last night, after my nephew's birthday.  It was a spur of the moment decision, but super fun to go out with grandma and my BIL, SIL and nephews.  Six boys between the ages of 10 and 3-I bet they smiled(or cursed) as we walked out the door! LOL!

Thanks for stopping by!

On another note...just wanted to let you all know that my husband found a job! HOORAY!  It is a little bit further away then we would like, but it was an incredible offer and one that he couldn't refuse!  I am so thankful for all of the time that my boys have gotten to spend with him the past 5 months.  I have tried to look at this in a positive way!  Now I will have to get back in my routine of cleaning, laundry and cooking! LOL!  He has spoiled me doing the bulk of the housework while he has been out of work!  I feel so blessed to have him in my life.  Just wanted to share the good news with you all!

Friends With Flair and some NEW {ippity} inspiration!

Hello! I hope you are having fun today looking at all of the wonderful Unity inspiration!  I got my big box of {ippity} yesterday and couldn't wait to play!  The Kissmas and Mistletoe set makes me sooooooo happy!  I love it!  I couldn't wait to pair that snowman image with my d'vine swirl CB folder!  I also made a matching ornament to go with the card.  I took some photos for a quick little tutorial!

First you need to find an old spool from ribbon.  I got this idea from Patti, the owner of Paper Maniac!  What a great way to recycle those ribbon spools!  If you are like me, you probably go through ALOT of these!  I used my nesties to create my circles in brown and kraft-to match my card.  The snowmen are stamped in ridinghood red.  I sponged brown ink around the edges and over the raised swirls and also on my snomen.

Now you use some tacky tape to tape a band of ribbon around the spool.  I created a loop on one end so that I could create my hemp twine ornament hanger.

Clear as mud?  LOL!  The ornament is really easy to make!  Who wouldn't want to receive a homemade card and matching ornament?  I hope you give it a try.  Remember...FREE shipping on my {ippity} products the month of November!  Click HERE to shop!

Snowflakes "Stick Together"

Hey there!  This card is for the sketch challenge over on SCS.  I had to use my brand new set from There She Goes called Stick Together.  This is my second set from TSG, and I really love the quality of their stamps.  Jessica has fabulous customer service, too!  This set was only $7!
I stamped the snowflake panel in memento Paris Dusk with the various snowflake stamps in this set.  I used some beautiful Elan Metallic paper from Paper Maniac in Steel Blue and Sapphire.  This is the best shimmer paper on the market, IMO.  It is fabulous!  The dimensional snowflake and bling is from Michael's dollar bin!  I stamped the swirls in Paris Dusk behind the main snowflake (also from this TSG stamp kit).

Thanks for stopping by today!  Hubby had an interview early this morning and they just called him back to talk to him again! YAY!  Keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer for us.

Hugs!

Hope Your Holidays Are A Hoot!

Hello!  I was so excited to ink up this Christmas Owls set from MFT.  I have had it for quite some time, but was saving it for the holiday season!  I used the color challenge over on SCS-artichoke, red and brown with a neutral.  Love those colors for Christmas and it seemed the perfect combo for these two feathered friends!  I added some glitter to the fur on the hats and the ornaments.  The image is colored with copics.  I bought the felt star at hobby lobby and added a hemp bow to the center.

Thanks for stopping by!  I am busy with hubby decorating the inside and outside of the house for the holidays!  I {heart} this time of year!

More Holiday Decor from the Paper Maniac!

Hello! I have a quick and easy holiday shadow box idea for you.  I bought this 5x5 shadow box at the dollar store.  The inside panel is actually 4.5x 4.5.  I had a really difficult time photographing this, so I took a photo of the inside of the box so you can get a feel for these wonderful Graphic 45 papers.  I added some epoxy letter stickers to the middle paper panel.  The Santa tag is also from Graphic 45.  I tore some holly leaves and berries off of a garland I have, and glued them inside of the box in the corner.  I stamped a corner flourish in the upper inside corner and also onto the lower left corner of the glass.  I added some kaiser pearls to the flourish on the glass to give it even more dimension.  I used black staz on ink for this.  Shadow boxes are great for sitting on a table, or for hanging on the wall.  A quick and inexpensive holiday gift!

Check out daily holiday decor ideas at the Paper Maniac!

EIC62-May Arts is our sponsor!

This week's Etsy shop for your inspiration is quiltish.  So many fabulous patterns and fabric for your inspiration this week.  I was inspired by the colors of the washcloths in the upper left photo.

I {heart} this plaid ribbon from May Arts!  It is so soft and the colors and the plaid made me think of school.  I used this school house stamp from Unity, and the sentiment is from MFT.  The paper is from my scrap bin, so I can't tell ya where I got it!  I stamped the sentiment  and schoolhouse in tuxedo black memento ink and then colored the school house with my prisma pencils.  The school house is stamped on kraft paper.

I hope you can play this week!  Please use keyword EIC62 when uploading to online galleries.  Also make sure you link your card on the EIC blog HERE.  A random winner will be picked next Friday to win the May Arts ribbon assortment pictured above in this post!  Good luck and can't wait to see what you create!

Sanding happy thoughts....

Hello!  I made this card today for the what to use challenge over on SCS, and the Limelight sketch challenge. For the Limelight challenge we were to also use chipboard on our card.  My chipboard comes from Colorbok-got it in the dollar bin at Michael's.  My base is kraft and I used paper from Making Memories Autumn Splendor collection.  I tied some hemp twine through my chipboard buttons.  I used the SU sanded BG stamp in black.  For the What to use we were to do a faux technique or finish.  I used a sentiment from Unity at the bottom of the inside and then tore across the front of the bottom.
Thanks for stopping by!

Button Wreath Ornament Tutorial

Hello!  Emily Niehaus here with a quick and easy button wreath ornament for you!  The Paper Maniac offers a wide variety of buttons at a great value.  I wanted to show you how to put your buttons to use, and make this easy ornament.  My sister made these for everyone several Christmas's ago, and tied them to her gifts.  It is a tradition that she makes us an ornament every year.

First you want to start out with 8 buttons of the same general size.  If there are small differences in size it is okay.  I decided to use 8 of the exact same button for this tutorial.  You want to use a thin wire to weave in and out of the button holes, as if you were sewing.  This helps to make the circular shape you need for your wreath.  I used a 28 gauge wire for mine.  You want it to be thin so that you can easily string your buttons on.

After you are done sewing the wire into the buttons, twist the ends together at the top, clip and tuck on the back of your wreath so they don't show.

Now you need some embroidery floss.  I chose red.  I used a large embroidery needle and sewed through all of the button holes over top of the wire.  Make sure you don't knot it and leave a large enough tail so that when you get back to the top you can tie them together for your hanger.  Chose a ribbon of your choice, and create a beautiful bow for your wreath!  I hope you enjoyed this button wreath tutorial!  Make sure you check out the PM store for all of your button and ribbon needs!
